2017 Reading: The Worrier's Guide to Life

Just a little fun book between challenge books. I just saw this on display at the library and thought it looked hilarious. I love reading these little books that people have made of their online comics.

2017 Reading: A Room With A View

#35 A book set in a hotel

I know I saw the movie for this book many years ago when I was going through a Helena Bonham-Carter phase. Don't ask, I have no idea.

This is one of those books that I am glad that I read, but will probably never call it one of my favorites. There are just certain aspects of the book that I just don't find all that entertaining. Something about the uptight and proper way a lady is supposed to act just grates on my nerves. And even in rebellion, these woman (girls really) are so snotty and unbending. Were women really like that? I can't even imagine.

This book really didn't have a plot that I would sink my teeth into. Mainly because that plot was subdued under frivolity and the insistence of nothing being proper or good enough for anyone anywhere ever. There was something wrong with every little thing so that any enjoyment of a thing had to be kept hidden in shame. I just don't get that.

Then again, I also don't really believe in those love stories where the two people only meet once and never talk to  each other. Call me a cynic.

2017 Reading: John Dies At the End

#46 A book from a genre/subgenre that you've never heard of

Bizarro fiction.

What. The fuck. Did I just read?

I think I would have loved to see a video of my different facial expressions as I read this book, because I know there are some good ones. I think I had to put the book down about three times just to wrap my head around a sentence or two. It's almost as if someone who has never done drugs tried to come up with a story they THOUGHT a drugged out person would tell... and then edited it while actually on drugs.

I thought I was going to stop there, but I might actually watch the movie and then read the second book. I have no idea.

2017 Reading: Dracula Vs. Hitler

#1 A book recommended by a librarian

One of the good things about working in a library is that there are always book suggestions floating around.

I had never heard of this book before it was suggested to me and I must say, the idea intrigued me. I usually don't like books that are written this way (not a narrative, but rather a series of journal entries, letters, and SS telegram messages) but I must say that I think it made this book all the better for it.

I kept picturing Gerard Butler's Dracula in my mind rather than Gary Oldman's and I don't really know why. I guess I thought of his smile and the way he dressed and since the Dracula in this book is hilarious, I guess I just thought of Gerard laughing a lot. Because yes.

I really enjoyed this book.
