2017 Reading: Christine

#11 A book by an author who uses a pseudonym

It never said that this had to be one of the books that he wrote UNDER that pseudonym. HA HAAAA!!!!! Loophole.

Once I got into it, I really enjoyed this book. I tend to have fun with Stephen King's writing (though I have book told that after the accident, his style changed and luckily I haven't encountered any of that writing yet).

Part of me was a little disappointed that the spirit making the car run was that of an angry ghost instead of the car itself. I don't know why, but I think that might have been more terrifying. Not human.

Now I would like to see the movie and see how it measures up since I haven't seen it before.

2017 Reading: 5 Children's Books

There was a slim chance that I was going to have to step in a do an impromptu story time today so I had to bone up on the things I would be reading. All of these were adorable. Except Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs... which was quite disturbing.

2017 Reading: Love Poems

#23 A book with a red spine

So, I had to physically make myself sit down with no distractions just to finish this book.

Now, I'm all about free verse poetry, but there is a line. There's a line where it stops being poetry and turns into ramblings with no punctuation or capital letters.

I'm glad I'm done with this.

2017 Reading: The Other

#41 A book recommended by an author you love

This book was on the recommendation list on one of Poppy Z. Brite's pages.

SPOILERS! I knew it! I totally called that Holland was dead from the very beginning. Mostly because no one talked to or about him the entire time. HA! I am too pro.

But seriously, I really liked this book. The idea of twins being so close that one can completely imagine the other living and breathing next to him for months after their death. To BECOME their twin without knowing it and committing these horrible acts. Amazing.

And the ending! Which I hadn't actually guessed beforehand (maybe not so pro after all) was everything I could hope for.

2017 Reading: This Side of Paradise

#50 A book that's been mentioned in another book

Okay, so he wrote this after Zelda broke up with him and thought getting this published would win her back. And it worked.

Umm, okay, sure. I don't see how that happened but whatever, they were weird people.

I'm starting to think that The Great Gatsby was a fluke because I have not really enjoyed anything else of his that I have read. Everything is ennui and changeful. Enough to make your head spin. One minute the main character is desperately in love and she loves him back then she gets a bruise on her neck and he tries to tell her it's okay and she breaks up with him and he's just all like "Yeah, okay, bye." WTF?!

I'm also lead to believe that this book is mostly based on Scott's life so I don't know how much of this happened and how much didn't but Jesus man... Everything just flits around all willy-nilly and no decisions get made.

When you get to the end, however, I think everything culminates into the last line and actually makes the whole novel come together into one simple idea.

"I know myself," he cried, "but that is all."
