2021 Reading: Different Seasons

#23 A book set somewhere you’d like to visit in 2021

I know at some point I attempted to read 'Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption' but I don't think I ever read any of the other stories, so I figured this would be a good time to dive into this book as a whole. And since there will be no traveling at all this year, why not indulge in a fun fantasy that I will visit Maine one day and pretend that I am in a Stephen King novel.

It amazes me how the film writers turned Shawshank Redemption from this short story into a movie. I guess I can say that about most of the stories. I'm always amazed at things like that. I've never seen the movie for 'Apt Pupil' but I'm sure that it is just as good as the others.

2021 Reading: Pet Semetary

#46 A book from your TBR list you meant to read last year but didn’t

This has actually been on my TBR list for a very long time. I watched the movie as a part of my "Shitty 80's Horror Movie" review series that I used to do for this blog (which I should totally get back into, BTW) and I knew that I wanted to read it so that I could compare them. Now I guess I have to watch the new one that came out a few years ago.

I love King's writing so much. There's just something about it (his older stuff anyway. I've heard some things about his later stuff that make me think I wouldn't like it as much) that draws you in and makes it so you don't think you can put it down.

2020 Reading: Desperation

#32 A book with a made-up language

When I picked this book up, it was really daunting because of the size, but much like all of King's work, it isn't as long as you think once you start reading. I ended up really caught up in this one and it makes me want to read even more. He just has a way of story-telling that pulls you in. And he's not afraid to go into the mind of the inhuman "thing" that are the antagonists in his stories.

2020 Reading: Night Shift

#11 An anthology

I think I'm just going to start reading all of Stephen King's stuff (pre-accident of course). There's just something about his writing that is captivating. I recently made a list of all the movies and television that have come out of his writing and the sheer number of things on that list is surprising. And that's not including remakes and the like.

There's another Stephen King on the list for this year so we'll see how that goes. Might have to see if I can fit some more in next year.

2019 Reading: The Shining

#38 A novel based on a true story

I finally finished it! I think I really want to read more Stephen King this coming year. There is just something I like about it. His stuff is coming back into popularity with a vengeance lately and I recently realized that I have not read as much of his stuff as I would have liked and I would like to change that.

I enjoyed the book version of this (because of COURSE I've seen the Stanley Kubrick movie version) and now that I know how this one ends, I am very anxious to read Doctor Sleep to see how the story continues with Danny as a grown up.

I also like to discuss this story with my friend Tara sometimes (well, the movie, anyway). We talk about all the theories that fly around, especially from the Room 237 documentary and all of the different ideas that people have about the hotel and the reasons why Jack went insane and what or how the "shining" effects Danny and his parents and it was good to get to the source material so that I could have the original perspective to then about for the future.

This is the last book for the year, I didn't do too well for the PopSugar Reading Challenge, but I hop that I'll be able to catch up and do better next year.

2017 Reading: Christine

#11 A book by an author who uses a pseudonym

It never said that this had to be one of the books that he wrote UNDER that pseudonym. HA HAAAA!!!!! Loophole.

Once I got into it, I really enjoyed this book. I tend to have fun with Stephen King's writing (though I have book told that after the accident, his style changed and luckily I haven't encountered any of that writing yet).

Part of me was a little disappointed that the spirit making the car run was that of an angry ghost instead of the car itself. I don't know why, but I think that might have been more terrifying. Not human.

Now I would like to see the movie and see how it measures up since I haven't seen it before.

Shitty 80's Horror Movie Review: Pet Semetary (franchise)

Okay, so since I didn't post last week (because I am lazy) I decided to combine the two in this series to make up for it.

I had never seen these movies before, but it's one of those things that you always hear about from other people.

There are some things I would like to know though, like:

What the fuck was up with the mom in the first one and her story about her sister? It had NO bearing whatsoever in the story line.

Why did the old guy, who KNEW that burying things in the crop circle (because that place was, like, 20 miles away from the actual pet semetary) would turn them into evil flesh eating zombies, tell that dude about it in the first place? So the fucking can got run over by a truck. Shit happens. Get another fucking cat. Ugh. People are stupid.

Shitty 80's Horror Movie Review: Children of the Corn (franchise)

I have never read the book (or story, whatever) by Stephen King that inspired this series of movies (and briefly a show, which I did not bother watching) so I really have no basis of comparison for story, characters references, etc.  Maybe that'll be one of the things on my list to read for this year.

Children of the Corn (1984)

Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1992)

Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest (1995)

Children of the Corn IV: The Gathering (1996)

Children of the Corn V: Fields of Terror (1998)
(totally forgot to mention that guy was in Bride of Chucky, too)

Children of the Corn 666: Isaac's Return (1999)

Children of the Corn VII: Revelation (2001)

Children of the Corn VIII: Genesis (2011)

Yeah, you can kind of tell by movie 7, I was just ready for this franchise to be over so that I could start on something else.
